The piracy activities in the Indian Ocean are continuously increasing, causing big increases in operational costs as safety, insurances and changes in speed. The pirates become more and more aggressive and a big part of the Indian Ocean is not considered a high-risk area. To cover costs some carriers have implemented a Piracy and War Risk surcharge.
